Nez Perce County commissioners have approved a contract amendment to an Idaho Rural Block Grant that will help fund a major dock expansion project at the Port of Lewiston.
The estimated $2.9 million project involves building a 150-foot extension to the port’s existing 120-foot container dock and installing protective fenders. The design and environmental aspects of the project are complete. It is expected to go out for bid in late January and be finished by March 2014.
Monday’s action transferred $34,000 of the $500,000 grant from the project’s design budget to construction. The grant will now cover $327,000 of the project’s construction budget, $148,000 of the design budget, and $25,000 in administrative expenses.
The port has secured several grants for construction, including $1.3 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation, and a $600,000 Idaho Rural Economic Development and Integrated Freight Transportation loan.
The port is also contributing $560,000.
