Lewiston elementary student wins Idaho holiday card contest

8-year-old Benicio Avila, a second-grader at Orchards Elementary in Lewiston, is the grand prize winner of the Idaho State Department of Education’s annual holiday card contest.

The contest was held across the state, and every grade-level winner was a northern Idaho student, including two others from the Lewiston School District.

The students were asked to create a winter scene, and Avila’s piece depicted birch trees on a snowy night. His artwork will be featured on the Department of Education’s holiday greeting card this year, which will be sent to schools, districts and others across the state.

Avila will also receive a certificate and copies of the card to share with friends and family members.
