Clarkston woman faces charge for allegedly hitting boyfriend with car

A Clarkston woman has been charged with felony aggravated DUI for allegedly striking her boyfriend with his pickup truck early Saturday morning in the Waha area.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday for 40-year-old Melissa Wilks in Nez Perce County Court.

Wilks told officers she had been drinking with friends at the Waha Store and Grill, then later went to a friends’ residence on Sureshot Lane. At about 2:20 a.m., she attempted to leave in a pickup truck, and her boyfriend, 30-year-old Aaron Smith, of Lewiston, tried to stop her and apparently was struck.

Court records say Wilks’ blood-alcohol level was 0.197 percent, more than double the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Paramedics took Smith to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center with injuries to his abdomen and pelvis. He was transferred to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane and later discharged.

The incident remains under investigation.
