The Latah County coroner has determined that an 18-year-old University of Idaho student who died Sunday morning in Moscow succumbed to hypothermia.

Joseph Wiederrick’s body was found under a bridge on North Mountain View Road Monday afternoon. Results of toxicology tests that are due in two to three weeks should reveal whether Wiederrick was impaired when he walked around Moscow early Sunday morning after leaving a fraternity party on the university campus.

Police believe the Hailey, Idaho, teen was disoriented based on several encounters he had with homeowners in the northeast section of Moscow.

Wiederrick wandered down roads and through snowy fields in sub-freezing temperatures before apparently seeking shelter underneath the bridge.
