Gold’s Gym in Lewiston has purchased the former Lewiston Walmart building, with plans to relocate there sometime this summer.
The purchase price of the transaction was not disclosed.
The 117,000-square-foot building and the 15 acres it sits on at the intersection of Thain Grade and Stewart Avenue had been on the market since 2009. It has been vacant since September of that year, when Walmart opened a supercenter in Clarkston.
Gold’s Gym plans to occupy more than 60,000 square feet of the building and lease space to other businesses that have expressed interest.
Gold’s is aiming for a June or July move from its Bryden Avenue location, and hoping to avoid a reduction in hours during the transition.
With the move, Gold’s has discussed new services, including racquetball courts, basketball courts and an enclosed outdoor pool.
