The Prairie and Troy basketball teams advanced into the 3rd place game with elimination round victories Monday night in the Idaho District II 1-A Division I Girls Basketball Tournament at the Lewis-Clark State College Activity Center.
The 3rd-seeded Pirates took control early building a 17 point lead in the first quarter and went on to beat 5th-seeded Clearwater Valley 68-35.
Defensively, Prairie held the Rams to 5 first half points.
Sophomore Kayla Schumacher led the way with 17 points and senior point guard Callie Mader added 13 points including three, three-pointers as the Pirates improve to 17-6 on the season.
Clearwater Valley, which ends its season at 9-13, was led by senior post Tanasha Webb who scored 12 points.
In other action, 4th-seeded Troy advanced with a 40-27 win over 7th-seeded Potlatch.
Sophomore post Whitney Fredrickson led the Trojans with 10 points and junior guard Sidney Halseth added 9 as Troy improves to 12-10.
Potlatch ends its season at 6-16.
Prairie and Troy will battle for 3rd place Friday night at 7:30pm with live coverage on KORT-FM/AM in Grangeville. The winner of the 3rd place game will advance on to a state tournament play-in game Saturday in St. Maries against the District I champion.
The District II Championship Game will be played Thursday night at the LCSC Activity Center when top-seeded Kamiah plays 2nd-seeded Lapwai at 8pm with live coverage also on KORT-FM/AM.
