Lewiston man suffers burns in Thursday house fire

fireA Lewiston house fire Thursday sent one man to the hospital with “mild to moderate” upper body burns after he tried to extinguish the blaze.

According to the Lewiston Fire Department, no one else was injured in the fire at 107 18th Avenue. Crews responded to the fire at about 2:15 p.m. to find a large amount of smoke coming from the home, and the man in the front lawn. He was taken to St Joseph Regional Medical Center, where his condition was unknown.

The fire, believed to have started in the basement, was brought under control in about an hour and crews stayed on scene for a few hours to extinguish hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
