Clarkston man rescued after being swept over Selway Falls

RescuedA Clarkston man was rescued after being swept over Selway Falls.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Will Wainright was recreating with family above the falls at about 4pm Saturday, when he was swept away after diving into the river.

Wainwright was stuck among the rocks and logs at the bottom of the falls.

The sheriff’s department, along with personnel from Three Rivers Resort, the U.S. Forest Service, Kooskia Ambulance, Lowell Quick Response and several bystanders responded to the accident.

A raft occupied by sheriff’s deputy Jon Tibbets and Mike Smith Jr of Three Rivers Resort, was lowered in the falls area.

Deputy Tibbets was able to reach Wainwright, secure a lifejacket, and return to the raft. The raft was then pulled back to the shore by rescue personnel and bystanders.

Wainwright was transported to Syringa Hospital in Grangeville with unknown injuries.
