Parents and community members are encouraged to attend a presentation at Lincoln Middle School in Clarkston, Washington Wednesday night to learn about threats that exist on the Internet and how to prevent children from being victims of cyber-bullying.
Part of Unicel’s National Stand Up! Program, featured speaker and Stand Up! Spokesperson Shanterra McBride says the program is designed to help educators and parents understand and prevent the growing problem of technology-related bullying.

A Tumwater, Wash., man faces up to life in prison after being found guilty on all charges of sexual misconduct with boys at a Latah County Boy Scout camp.
Timothy Kellis, a former Clarkston assistant band director and scoutmaster, was convicted Friday in 2nd District Court of nine counts of lewd conduct with a minor younger than 16, and one count of attempted lewd conduct - he also faces 25 years in prison on each of two counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 16 for incidents last year as a counselor at Camp Grizzly near Harvard. He’s being held in the Latah County Jail awaiting sentencing.
Kellis, 39, is also charged in Asotin County with second-degree rape of a child for reportedly having sexual contact with a boy between the age of 12 and 14 from October 2003 through August 2005. He is expected to be transported to Washington after sentencing is completed in Idaho.

Kylie Dahl was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center after Asotin County deputies found her with a gunshot wound in an apartment at 928 16th Street.
The renter of the apartment, Dane Sells, 28, was arrested on an unrelated drug charge. He is being held at the Asotin County Jail on a $125,000 bond but has not been named a suspect in the shooting.
A third person was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, but no suspects have been identified.
The investigation is being headed by the Washington State Patrol.

A Clarkston man has been sentenced to eight to 15 years in prison for causing a fatal hit-and-run accident in Lewiston.
James Schuetze, 45, pleaded guilty in July to charges of vehicular manslaughter and aggravated driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol in exchange for prosecutors dropping charges of second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and leaving the scene of an injury collision.
Schuetze was arrested in Clarkston on May 5 after fleeing the scene of the Lewiston accident in which his van collided with a Suburban parked at a Third Avenue apartment building, killing Sydney Byrd, 8, and injuring another man.
Schuetze will also serve a concurrent four-to-eight year sentence for the aggravated drunken driving charge.
After his release, his driver’s license will be suspended for five years. Schuetze has previously pleaded guilty in Asotin County Superior Court to driving under the influence and was sentenced to six months in jail.
The Warrior Athletic Association in conjunction with Lewis-Clark State College are preparing for the 2nd Annual WAA High School Awards Dinner next month in the LCSC Activity Center. Student athletes, coaches and volunteers from 22 local high schools have been nominated in five different categories and will be honored for their efforts and accomplishments both on the field and in the gym.

Last year’s inaugural event drew about 250 people from the surrounding communities and organizers believe the event will continue to grow.

LC Valley fire departments, police agencies and emergency responders will pay tribute on Thursday, September 11 to those who perished in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks, with a parade of emergency vehicles culminating with ceremonies at Lewiston’s Pioneer Park.
Lewiston Fire Chief Gordy Gregg says the goal of the annual event serves as a way to honor those who gave their lives seven years ago.
