The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily increase water discharge from Dworshak Dam near Orofino, Idaho starting at 9pm PDT Sunday, March 30, for flood control. Discharge flow will be increased from approximately 8,400 cubic feet per second to 10,700 CFS beginning Sunday night and will be maintained until further notice. Corps officials advise boaters and other persons using water ways both in Dworshak Reservoir and below the dam on the Clearwater River to be alert to changes in water elevation and volume of flow during this time period. The City of Pullman, Washington Public Works Department is advising owners of buildings with decks and or flat roof tops to consider taking measures to remove excessive snow buildup. Officials say its particularly critical for wet snow or for rain on snow conditions. Excessive snow weight could cause damage, including collapse. Only qualified persons should remove snow from roofs and caution should be exercised so as not to damage the roof surface.
As the winter season moves into its peak time, the Idaho Transportation Department is advising motorists and travelers to plan ahead prior to driving on Idaho’s roadways. The Clearwater County Road Department based in Orofino, Idaho has issued a road advisory in the wake of heavy snows in parts of the county for Wednesday afternoon and evening. With several surveys showing holiday travel numbers to be up again this year, the Idaho State Police is urging motorists to drive carefully when traveling to and from destinations. Rick Ohnsman, Information Officer with the ISP says statistically the Thanksgiving Holiday is one of the most deadly both in Idaho and nationally.

With the recent outbreak of antibiotic resistant staph infections in north Idaho and eastern Washington schools, the North Central District Health Department has started an informational campaign to educate the public about the infection and ways to prevent its spread. Community Health Director Sonja Schriever says while the general public may not be familiar with the infection, its been well documented in the medical field.
