The Clearwater County Road Department based in Orofino, Idaho has issued a road advisory in the wake of heavy snows in parts of the county for Wednesday afternoon and evening. In it’s ongoing mission to keep motorists safe on roadways this winter, the Idaho State Police is offering tips to help drivers avoid accidents and crashes. ISP Spokesman Rick Ohnsman says the key to being safe starts with two types of preparation.

With several surveys showing holiday travel numbers to be up again this year, the Idaho State Police is urging motorists to drive carefully when traveling to and from destinations. Rick Ohnsman, Information Officer with the ISP says statistically the Thanksgiving Holiday is one of the most deadly both in Idaho and nationally.

With the recent outbreak of antibiotic resistant staph infections in north Idaho and eastern Washington schools, the North Central District Health Department has started an informational campaign to educate the public about the infection and ways to prevent its spread. Community Health Director Sonja Schriever says while the general public may not be familiar with the infection, its been well documented in the medical field.

Halloween activities are fun for both children and adults, but the holiday can also be a dangerous time for trick or treaters and partygoers who consume alcohol. The American Automobile Association is reminding both groups to be careful while taking part in any Halloween events. Dave Carlson with Triple-A Idaho says statistically, Halloween is one of the top holidays for vehicle-related pedestrian injuries and fatalities.

Tips for a safe Halloween include: wearing a bright costume with reflective tape if necessary; carrying a flashlight; staying in groups on sidewalks; and look both ways before crossing a street and only cross at corners.
