Fire crews working on the 800-acre Church Canyon wildfire burning near Kamiah are entering into the final stages of suppression efforts. Public Information Officer Terina Mullen says crews are continuing to mop up hot spots within the fire perimeter and some resources, including firefighters are being re-deployed to other more active fires in the region.

Meanwhile, the Snow Hole Fire burning about 12 miles southwest of Cottonwood in the Salmon River drainage has grown to an estimated 1,500 acres. Fire Information Officer Jenifer Costich says fire crews have reported some success in both hand line construction and burn-out operations.

Officials say extreme terrain and difficult access has hampered suppression efforts. The fire is listed as 20% contained.

As progress continues to be made on the fire some resources are being re-deployed to other high profile fires in the region. Officials say if mop up activities and line rehabilitation projects stay on pace, 100-percent containment could be achieved in possibly two days.

The Idaho Department of Lands has been the lead agency in charge of suppression efforts. Several local volunteer fire departments have also provided support of the lightning-caused blaze that began last Thursday.
