The University of Idaho football team will play host to arch-rival Boise State Saturday in Moscow. BSU is unbeaten on the year at 9-0 overall, 5-0 in WAC play and is ranked 9th nationally, while the Vandals have won twice in ten games and is 1-5 in conference.
The Broncos are the second-highest ranked team from a non-BCS league and if they win out could garner another spot in a lucrative BCS Bowl game as they did in 2006.
Idaho head coach Robb Akey says the Vandals, who’s post season dreams have long since vanished, would love to play the role of spoiler this week.

Idaho hasn’t beaten an FBS, formally Division I opponent since a 24-14 road win over Louisiana Tech two years ago this week. The Vandals are coming off a much better performance in a 13 point loss at Fresno State last week, but head coach Robb Akey says while the team continues to show improvement, moral victories don’t mean much.

University of Idaho junior safety Shilo Keo has opted to have season-ending surgery on his injured shoulder after tests revealed the injury to be more substantial than previously thought. Vandal head coach Robb Akey says the decision was a difficult one, but was the best for the long-term.
Vandal head coach Robb Akey comments
Keo, who was injured in the first quarter of the team’s fourth game against Utah State, will petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt in order to retain his junior class eligibility. Idaho officials believe Keo falls just inside the governing body’s limit for quarters played to qualify for the hardship.
Akey says the surgery will take place as soon as possible and Keo’s rehabilitation is expected to take anywhere from 6 to 8 months.

The University of Idaho football team opens the home portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon against in-state rival Idaho State. After suffering the program’s most lopsided loss in 40 years in a 70-0 drubbing at Arizona last weekend, Vandal head coach Robb Akey says the best thing the team can do is get back on the field.
Vandal head coach Robb Akey comments
Despite struggles in virtually every aspect of the game a week ago, Akey says there won’t be any major changes made this week in terms of personnel or offensive or defensive formations.

The University of Idaho football team will open the 2008 season Saturday night when the Vandals travel to Tucson to face the University of Arizona. There has been much debate in college football as to the merits of playing a season opening game against top-notch competition with a bigger payout, or scheduling a lower level opponent in a game that serves more as a warm up with less risk of losing.
Idaho head coach Robb Akey says in the case of the Vandals, opening up with a BCS school like Arizona is a great barometer to see where the team is and what it needs to improve on.
